Mygazines.com, a Youtube or Hulu for Magazines?

August 5, 2008 - 2:19 pm No Comments

Besides the odd name, mygazines.com is pretty cool. The concept is that someone scans and uploads their magazine to the site and people view it, simple. However it seems odd that people can upload these newly released magazines, like from this month, without getting in any legal problems. This almost seems impossible, that’s why I emailed the company to ask them how this is legal, I will post the response as soon as I get it. But forgetting the legal stuff this site is easy use. It is a little slow, but once you get your magazine its not that bad. There of course in this web 2.0 world, is a social part to the site. You can share articles and bring in your contacts. You do get what you get for free, some magazines are low quality, however most are not that bad. Over all its a great site, but it will be seen how long this site can last.

slydial.com

Today I tested out slydial.com. Slydial allows you to make a direct call to someone’s voicemail. Right now slydial is still in private beta however you can get access to secret site from slydial.com. Anyways, I wanted to test it out so I used a landline phone to call a cell phone and leave a voice. I called the Slydial’s number and was disappointed. I had a voice come up that said I needed caller ID on this phone so that the person who was calling would know who I am. Although that was disappointing I do understand why that feature is enabled. However, once you get past that obstacle Slydial will direct you to a person’s voice mail immediately. Overall it into the good product and worked well because simple.

acrobat.com

Adobe is leaping into the business of online tools. One of their first online tools photoshop.com, allows you to simply fix up pictures online. It may not a new concept, but it works pretty well. They also build Buzzword, which is a online word processor. Their newest online product ties in Buzzword, Adobe Connect Now, and of course Acrobat into one online tools set. Acrobat.com is a great simple to use tool kit. This site allows you to write documents (with Buzzword), create PDF’s, share files, and conduct a live online meeting (using Connect Now). All of these tools allow you to share with others.  Best of all as of now they are all free. I would of liked to see the PDF maker to be a little more useful, but worked just fine. All in all I think this is a nice site with good looks.
