Read a barcode with your phone

July 8, 2008 - 1:27 pm 1 Comment

This new service scanlife.com allows you to take a picture of a special picture code called EZcodes. After you have taken the picture, your phone will send you to a website or a page with information about the board or page the code is on. Over all this a cool product, however it will be some time until this will really start off.

acrobat.com

June 3, 2008 - 12:21 pm No Comments

Adobe is leaping into the business of online tools. One of their first online tools photoshop.com, allows you to simply fix up pictures online. It may not a new concept, but it works pretty well. They also build Buzzword, which is a online word processor. Their newest online product ties in Buzzword, Adobe Connect Now, and of course Acrobat into one online tools set. Acrobat.com is a great simple to use tool kit. This site allows you to write documents (with Buzzword), create PDF’s, share files, and conduct a live online meeting (using Connect Now). All of these tools allow you to share with others.  Best of all as of now they are all free. I would of liked to see the PDF maker to be a little more useful, but worked just fine. All in all I think this is a nice site with good looks.

g.ho.st

May 29, 2008 - 9:58 pm 1 Comment

G.ho.st is a service which gives you a online virtual computer for free. Now this concept of a online virtual computer is nothing new at all. g.ho.st, which is the web address, (not .com but .st, just so you know), gives you 5 GB of free space which is hosted on Amazon.com’s S3 Web Service. They also offer some applications like the Zoho writer and Youtube channel. The look of and feel seems similar to Vista, odd. It seems their only punch here is they use the Amazon Web Service to keep your data safe.  At this point even though it is only in Alpha, its nothing to write home about, and sure will not take over your computer desktop any time soon.

Google Android… the coming

May 12, 2008 - 9:26 pm No Comments
Laurie's Visit 042

Well phones these days don’t often do what we want them to do. Most of us can’t live with out a phone however. Now I’m not say phones a bad and won’t do what you want, but it is the carriers who lock down the phones, making you pay left and right. However with the coming of Android we are seeing “open” become the new word in phones. (Below one of the first Android phones), allows you to add components to it. This means  you  want to  be able to write on your phone using a Word type program then you build it and put it on.

BigScreeenLive

May 8, 2008 - 9:54 pm No Comments

Today we took a look at Bigscreenlive.com. Bigscreenlive is a program that allows you to serf the internet, and navigate the computer easily. It is mostly made for seniors citizens who did not grow up in the computer or internet age. Over all it is a great program and easy to use. However I found the inbox area and the news area to be a little clunky. And I think the price might be  a little high for what it does, $9.95 a month. It is worth trying out for 30 days though. Check out the latechna video below for more info…

Thanks to Webware.com for the hint on bigscreeenlive.

Have you ever wanted to sue someone, something, or even the weather. Well go over to allrise.com, and do just that. You tell what you are suing and why. As soon as you post it, it is off into the communities hands. The community then decides whether they or it is guilty. Although you are not actually suing it or them, it is still fun to play around.

Seesmic.com, a video response website, (check it out for your self), has come out with a Wordpress plug-in. This little plug-in allows you to record videos within Wordpress. However the big thing about this plug-in is it allows readers to leave video comments on your site, without leaving your site. Check out there wiki for more information on the plug-in.

Microsoft Yahoo deal… Down the drain

May 3, 2008 - 6:12 pm No Comments
Yahoo! Inc.Yahoo! Inc.

It is finally official that Microsoft has pulled away from the Yahoo bid. At this point I do not see this deal popping up any time soon, again. We will not find out what would have happened, but I think it would of been a slow process, and it would have been some time until we would have saw a change in ether company.
